Yankees GM on Teixeira: 'I don't think we'll have the same issues this year as we had last year'

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman believes Mark Teixeira's injury woes are a thing of the past.

"I don't think we'll have the same issues this year as we had last year," Cashman told the Newark Star-Ledger.

The first baseman was limited to 123 games in 2014, mostly due to continuing soreness in his surgically-repaired wrist which has hampered him for the past two years. He also suffered hamstring, knee and oblique injuries last season.

"I think Mark Teixeira is definitely an everyday first baseman," Cashman added. "I think he'll prove that this year. I think last year is something he felt will be part of the process and he feels it won't be part of this year's process. In terms of recovery and rehab, last year was expected for him. And that won't be expected going forward."

Teixeira, 34, hit a miserable .216 with 22 home runs and 62 RBIs last season while he played through pain, and the Bronx Bombers still owe him $45 million through the 2016 campaign.
