Rangers' Darvish cleared to begin throwing in December

Brad Penner / USA TODAY Sports

After a miserable season for the Texas Rangers, the team received some good news on Tuesday as pitcher Yu Darvish has been cleared to begin his throwing program in December.

Darvish, who was shut down for the season in August, had an MRI done on his elbow by Dr. Keith Meister earlier today that came back clean, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram

With the season already lost, the Rangers decided to proceed with caution and place Darvish on the disabled list after an MRI revealed inflammation in the elbow of his pitching arm in mid-August.

The 28-year-old, who has three-years and $31 million remaining on his deal, posted a 10-7 record and 3.06 ERA in 144 1/3 innings last season, while striking out 182.
