KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Chiefs safety Eric Berry was placed on the non-football injury list after a mass was found in his chest following last week's game in Oakland. Team trainer Rick Burkholder said Berry may have lymphoma.
Burkholder said doctors are ''75 percent'' of the way toward a definitive diagnosis, and that Berry was on his way to Atlanta to be examined by specialists at Emory University.
Burkholder spoke during a news conference attended by Kansas City coach Andy Reid, general manager John Dorsey, team president Mark Donovan and chairman Clark Hunt. Berry issued a statement in which he said he was ''in shock'' but vowed to battle the illness.
CLEVELAND (AP) - A Browns fan who says he wanted to give Johnny Manziel ''a hug'' was struck by the rookie quarterback's entourage at a downtown hotel and was left with a swollen eye and lip, police said.
Police were called to The Metropolitan at The 9, where Manziel has a luxury apartment, after a fight broke out at 2:25 a.m. Saturday.
According to a police report, Chris Gonos told police he was assaulted by ''Johnny Football and his entourage.'' The 33-year-old fan said he and his girlfriend approached Manziel while waiting for an elevator and he told the popular first-round draft pick: ''I'm the biggest Browns fan ever. I love you. I want to give you a hug.''
Gonos said he took one step toward Manziel and was punched by a man listed on the report as Dana Kirk. Gonos contends he was struck several times in the face and ''pushed and attacked'' by a group of unidentified men who were with Manziel. Kirk said Gonos tried to assault Manziel, and he defended the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner.
BASEBALL
BOSTON (AP) - The Red Sox agreed to contract terms with free-agent third baseman Pablo Sandoval, his agent confirmed. According to a baseball official with knowledge of the deal, Boston also struck a deal with slugger Hanley Ramirez, who broke into the major leagues with the Red Sox in 2005.
The official confirmed both agreements on condition of anonymity because the players hadn't passed physicals. Ramirez's deal was expected to be finalized Tuesday.
The moves give the Red Sox a potent batting order that includes two of the last three World Series MVPs in Sandoval and David Ortiz.
NEW YORK (AP) - Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez and John Smoltz are among 17 newcomers on baseball's 2015 Hall of Fame ballot.
Craig Biggio, who fell two votes short of the 75 percent needed in the 2014 balloting, tops 17 holdovers on the Baseball Writers' Association of America ballot. That group includes Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire, Mike Piazza, Jeff Bagwell and Tim Raines.
Carlos Delgado, Nomar Garciaparra and Gary Sheffield also are among the first-time eligibles.
SEATTLE (AP) - Third baseman Kyle Seager and the Seattle Mariners have agreed to a $100 million, seven-year contract, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the deal is pending a physical.
Seager is coming off his first All-Star selection and Gold Glove. The 27-year-old hit .268 with a career-high 25 homers and 96 RBIs this year.
LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Dodgers acquired right-hander Juan Nicasio from the Colorado Rockies for a player to be named later or cash.

Josh Willingham is retiring after 11 major league seasons, agent Matt Sosnick said.
The 35-year-old outfielder hit .215 with 14 homers and 40 RBIs in 364 plate appearances this year with Minnesota and Kansas City. He was 1 for 4 in his first postseason appearance, including 0 for 2 in the World Series.
Willingham has a .253 career average with 195 homers and 632 RBIs in a big league career that also included time with Florida, Washington and Oakland.
SOCCER
SAO PAULO (AP) - Brazilian soccer great Pele was hospitalized for a ''medical evaluation.''
The Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo said the three-time World Cup champion is ''stable'' after being admitted late Monday. The 74-year-old Pele was released from the same hospital less than 10 days ago after successfully undergoing surgery to remove kidney stones.
NBA
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - An apologetic Jeffery Taylor said he will not appeal the NBA's 24-game suspension following his guilty plea on domestic violence charges.
The Hornets forward addressed the media and said he takes ''full responsibility'' for his actions and deemed NBA Commissioner Adam Silver's punishment ''appropriate.''
Taylor apologized to the Hornets organization, his teammates and the woman whom he assaulted at the hotel in East Lansing, Michigan, in September. Taylor said he has met with general manager Rich Cho and addressed his teammates, but has not yet spoken to owner Michael Jordan.
METAIRIE, La. (AP) - The New Orleans Pelicans said guard Eric Gordon's left shoulder injury will sideline him indefinitely.
Team officials said an MRI revealed that Gordon tore his labrum when he separated his shoulder in a collision with Jazz guard Trey Burke during Saturday night's victory in Utah. The oft-injured Gordon is averaging 9.5 points in 31 minutes per game this season.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Texas point guard Isaiah Taylor has a broken left wrist and will miss an extended period of time for the No. 7 Longhorns.
Texas coach Rick Barnes said he does not know when Taylor will return, but the injury is not season-ending. He said Taylor does not need surgery.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina coach Larry Fedora apologized to Duke's David Cutcliffe after his team's celebration following the Tar Heels' victory against the Blue Devils left the visiting locker room damaged by spray paint. The school also said it will pay for the cleanup.
TENNIS
MADRID (AP) - Rafael Nadal will open a tennis academy on his home island of Mallorca in 2016. The 14-time Grand Slam winner held a groundbreaking ceremony for the academy in his home town of Manacor.
