The Cubs added Edwards to their 40-man roster Thursday, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Analysis:

Edwards was limited to just 12 starts during the minor league season due to shoulder troubles, but he performed very well in those 12 outings (2.35 ERA, 1.06 WHIP) and showed no ill effects of the injury during his time in the Arizona Fall League (1.80 ERA, .154 BAA). He'll likely need to prove himself at the Double-A level for a large portion of 2015, but Edwards is already looking like the best piece the Cubs got in the Matt Garza deal and could end up earning a September callup.
