Rangers' Alexi Ogando won't pitch this winter

Jerome Miron / USA TODAY Sports

Alexi Ogando has informed the Texas Rangers that he will go against the club's wishes and will not attempt to pitch this winter.

"We talked about him pitching in winter ball, and that was of interest to us," assistant general manager Thad Levine told T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com. "But as he got closer to the time where he would have to formally commit, he felt he would be better served just to continue his rehab work.

A club official claimed the 31-year-old has recovered from an elbow injury that limited him to 25 innings last season and has been throwing bullpen sessions at the team's academy in the Dominican.

Ogando has spent his entire five-year career with the Rangers, compiling a 28-16 record and 3.35 ERA in 406 innings.
