Brewers agree to terms with pitcher John Ely

Christopher Hanewinckel-US PRESSWIRE

Right-hander John Ely signed a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Analysis:

Ely seemed to find his niche working out of the bullpen after returning from Tommy John surgery last season, posting a 2.52 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 35:14 K:BB over 39.1 innings with the Red Sox's Triple-A Pawtucket affiliate. There's an outside chance Ely could crack the major league roster at some point next year, but he'd likely work exclusively in middle relief.
