Monday Sports In Brief

MIAMI (AP) BASEBALL

Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton has agreed to terms with the team on a $325 million, 13-year contract. Team owner Jeffrey Loria has confirmed the deal, the most lucrative for an American athlete.

The deal includes a no-trade clause, and Stanton can opt out after six years. A news conference was planned Wednesday.

The contract tops the $292 million, 10-year deal Miguel Cabrera agreed to with the Detroit Tigers in March. Alex Rodriguez signed the largest previous deal, a $275 million, 10-year contract with the Yankees before the 2008 season.

Stanton, who turned 25 on Nov. 8, is perhaps the game's most feared slugger. Stanton wasn't due to become eligible for free agency until after the 2016 season.

ATLANTA (AP) - The Atlanta Braves have dealt outfielder Jason Heyward and reliever Jordan Walden to the St. Louis Cardinals for pitcher Shelby Miller and a minor-leaguer.

The deal was announced Monday and ends Heyward's tenure with his hometown team.

The 25-year-old outfielder never lived up to expectations after a brilliant rookie season, when he homered in his first at-bat and was voted to the All-Star Game. This past season, he hit .271 with 11 homers, 58 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. He also won his second Golden Glove.

Miller went 10-9 with a 3.74 for the Cardinals, after going 15-9 with a 3.06 ERA in 2013.

Walden was 0-2 with a 2.88 ERA and three saves.

The Braves also acquired pitcher Tyrell Jenkins, who played for Class A Palm Beach last season.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Dallas, Columbus, Tampa and New Orleans have been chosen to host the women's basketball Final Four starting in 2017.

It's the first time that Dallas and Columbus will be the site of the national semifinals. The Texas city hosted the men's Final Four last season.

The 2017 Final Four will also mark the first time since 2003 that the women's national semifinals will be played on Friday with the championship game Sunday. That will align it with the preliminary rounds which will be played on a Friday-Sunday and Saturday-Monday format starting this season.

Columbus gets the Final Four in 2018 with Tampa, which is hosting the national championship this season, receiving it the following year. New Orleans will host for a fourth time in 2020.

Nashville, Pittsburgh and Houston were the other three finalists.

Indianapolis is the host in 2016.

SKIING

U.S. skier Bode Miller will undergo outpatient back surgery on Monday and is expected to be sidelined until at least January.

The 37-year-old Miller missed the start of the World Cup season because of a herniated disk in his back, which he said has been bothering him since a fall at the World Cup Finals last March.

Miller said the procedure will, ''alleviate the pain and discomfort I have been fighting in my back.''

Known for his high-risk, high-reward style of skiing, Miller returned last season from a year off to recover from knee surgery. He captured bronze in the super-G at the Sochi Games, the sixth Olympic medal of his career.

While training in Colorado last week, Miller said he was hoping to manage the pain and avoid surgery.

LITTLE LEAGUE

NEW YORK (AP) - A memoir when you're still a teenager may seem premature, but not for Mo'ne Davis, the first female pitcher to win a Little League World Series game.

''Mo'ne Davis: Remember My Name'' will be released next March by HarperCollins Children's Books, the publisher told The Associated Press on Monday.

The honor roll student from Philadelphia became a sensation last summer after leading the Taney Dragons to a 4-0 victory over Nashville, when she was just 13. Known for her long braids and uncommon poise, she has since appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated, thrown out the first pitch at a major league World Series game and starred in a car commercial directed by Spike Lee. In September, she donated her jersey to the baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

''When I joined an all-boys baseball team, my mom wasn't too happy,'' Mo'ne said in a statement issued Monday through HarperCollins. ''I proved to her (and to me) that I could do anything I set my mind to. I'm just a girl that likes to play sports and I'm excited to share my story with everyone,'' she said. ''I hope it encourages people to take a chance and play the sports they want to play and not just the ones people expect them to play.''

Later this month, she and her fellow Taney Dragons will help kick off the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
