Rangers will listen to offers on Elvis Andrus

With a surplus of candidates capable of playing shortstop, Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels will entertain offers for Elvis Andrus, Daniels told MLB NetworkRadio's Jim Bowden.

Andrus, who inked a eight-year, $120-million extension prior to last season, is coming off the worst campaign of his six-year career, preceded by an admitted lack of preparation during the offseason.

The 26-year-old slashed .263/.314/.333 with two home runs, 35 doubles and 41 RBIs in 157 games while striking out 96 times.

Earlier this week, Daniels stated that the Rangers plan to stick with Andrus as their shortstop moving forward, believing he has yet to reach his prime.

"Yeah, there's going to be speculation, that's the nature of the business and the nature of our side of the business and (the media's) side of the business," Daniels told Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas. "Nothing you can really do about that. We are obviously committed to Elvis both figuratively and literally. He's 25, 26 years old, and this guy's best baseball is ahead of him."

The Rangers have plenty of needs: Daniels noted the team is looking to improve on catching, left field, starting pitching and at the designated hitter position.
