Report: Stephen Drew a fallback plan for Yankees, Mets

At least two teams won't be rushing to sign free agent shortstop Stephen Drew.

The New York Yankees and New York Mets both view Drew as a fallback plan, reports Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Both teams are looking to upgrade at shortstop this offseason, but there are stronger options than Drew on the open market, including Hanley Ramirez and Jed Lowrie, to name a couple.

Drew lingered on the open market until June last season after the Boston Red Sox slapped a qualifying offer him, which deterred other teams from signing him due to fear of draft pick compensation.

Drew, who split the season between the Red Sox and Yankees, hit only .162 with seven home runs and 26 RBIs in 85 games in 2014.

Sherman predicts Drew's value could fall to roughly a one-year deal worth $4 million. He made just over $10 million last season.
