D-backs' La Russa: I'll be brokenhearted if we don't have a winning record in 2015

Arizona Diamondbacks chief baseball officer Tony La Russa has already set the team's primary goal for the 2015 season.

"I've said it publicly that I will be absolutely brokenhearted if we don't have a winning record next year, which is 82-80," La Russa told Steve Gilbert of MLB.com.

Arizona is coming off a 64-98 record last season – the second-lowest win total in franchise history. La Russa was brought on board in May and hired Dave Stewart to become general manager in late September. The pair plan to be active this winter as La Russa has no intentions of enduring a rebuild.

"There's two or three things that we can do – some of the conversations Dave's had – if all three or four things come through then yeah we'd get better than 82 wins," La Russa said. "If we can only do one, we'll see. I think the message that we're careful to send to our fans is that we are not a patient bunch. We are not going to ask them to hang with us for four or five years."

Arizona was linked to free agent pitchers Chad Billingsley and Japanese right-hander Kenta Maeda earlier this week.
