Report: Red Sox met with Lester's agent Tuesday for extended period of time
It appears both Jon Lester and the Boston Red Sox are getting serious about the possibility of a reunion.
Lester's agent reportedly met with Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington for an extended period of time Tuesday night, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com. The veteran free agent stated months ago he would be willing to return to the Red Sox, with whom he spent the first nine seasons of his career before getting traded to the Oakland Athletics in July.
Though the club has long maintained a policy not to offer long-terms deals to pitchers north of 30 years old, one baseball executive predicted earlier this week that the Red Sox may make an exception for Lester, reports ESPN's Gordon Edes.
Lester rejected a four-year offer from the Red Sox during spring training, but the club is reportedly mulling a six-year deal for the four-time All-Star who crafted a career-best 2.46 ERA (155 ERA+) over 32 starts in 2014.
