The Blue Jays originally traded the right-hander, along with catcher Erik Kratz, to the Kansas City Royals in late-July in exchange for infielder Danny Valencia.
Hendriks pitched sparingly for the Royals, posting a 4.66 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings. The 25-year-old didn't appear for the Royals in the postseason and was designated for assignment on Friday.
The 21-year-old Nessy split time between Single-A Lansing and Single-A Advanced Dunedin in 2014, slashing .231/.313/.332 with 17 doubles and 28 RBIs in 69 games.
Santiago Nessy, 21, eligible for Rule 5 draft but wouldn't have been protected by #BlueJays. Gets them another spring look at Hendriks
