Diamondbacks potential TV deal 'going to be a game changer'

Joe Camporeale / USA TODAY Sports

The Arizona Diamondbacks are expecting to receive an influx of income as they close in on a new television deal beginning in 2016.

Following the expiration of the team's current local TV contract with Fox Sports Arizona at the end of next season, Diamondbacks CEO Derrick Hall told Nick Piecoro of azcentral that the team is closing in on securing a new deal with the network. The contract is expected to range between 15-20 years and is estimated to at least double or triple the previous contract, worth a reported $31 million annually.

"I think it'll be very similar," Hall said when compared with recent deals other teams have received. "It's going to be a game changer."

After spending a franchise high $112 million on payroll in 2014 and posting the second-fewest wins in franchise history (64), Hall believes next season's payroll will hover around the $90-$100 million range.
