1991 - Bobby Cox becomes first person to win Manager of the Year in both leagues

Taking the Atlanta Braves from worst to first earns manager Bobby Cox a historical achievement.

Cox leads the Braves to a 29-win improvement in 1991, earning the National League Manager of the Year and becoming the first manager to win the award in both leagues.

Cox, who won the AL Manager of the Year with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1985, took over for Russ Nixon in Atlanta midway through the 1990 season after the Braves posted a 25-40 (.385) record.

Atlanta showed immediate improvement under Cox, finishing the season 40-57 (.412), paving the way for an offseason that brought Terry Pendleton, Sid Bream and Deion Sanders into the fold.

The Braves would overtake the Los Angeles Dodgers for the lead in the National League West on the second to last day of the regular season to claim the division. Atlanta, however, would lose 1-0 in Game 7 of the World Series to the Minnesota Twins.
