Nationals' Ohlendorf elects free agency

Nationals right-hander Ross Ohlendorf (back) was reinstated from the 60-day DL and outrighted off the 40-man roster, but he refused his assignment and elected free agency.

Analysis:

Back troubles surfaced in Ohlendorf's spring training debut, and he made just a handful of minor league appearances upon his return before suffering what proved to be a season-ending setback. The Nationals are ready to move on, but Ohlendorf posted a 3.28 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over 60.1 innings in 2013 and figures to at least earn a spring training invite from another club, health permitting.
