Giants' Romo reportedly tells cops: 'You don't know how to handle high-pressure situations'

San Francisco Giants reliever Sergio Romo lost the closer's role during the summer after failing to produce in the ninth inning. It hasn't stopped him, however, from reportedly telling police how to do their job.

Romo was allegedly involved in a dispute hours after the Giants clinched the NL pennant last week, and the soft-throwing right-hander reportedly lobbed a pair of zingers at cops during the incident.

From the San Francisco Gate:

According to police sources, officers were sent to Taylor and Post streets near Union Square about 2 a.m. Friday ... to respond to a report that one of the men forcing the woman into the vehicle had her in a bear hug.

When police arrived, the woman - identified as Romo’s girlfriend - was being held back by her brother.

Romo and the brother’s girlfriend were there as well, said the police sources.

As the cops started to sort things out, Romo told them repeatedly that “you are making a mistake,” said the sources.

The cops eventually determined that the two couples had been having a good time on the town when Romo’s girlfriend spotted a text from his ex-girlfriend on his cell phone and became upset.

That's when things reportedly got heated.

Once police determined Romo and the brother were trying to calm Romo's girlfriend down, the Giants pitcher was ordered to sit on the curb.

"You need to relax," police reportedly told the reliever as he attempted to stand up, according to sources.

Romo's alleged response: "No, no, you need to relax. You don't know how to handle high-pressure situations."

Police determined no crime had been committed, but the case was turned over to special investigations to ensure the subjects' stories are accurate, according to the report.

Romo lost the Giants' closer job in June after blowing three saves in five attempts and pitching to a 4.74 first-half ERA. The 31-year-old has been much better since, allowing just three earned runs over his last 20 2/3 innings of work.

The club did not return calls seeking comment, according to the report.
