VIDEO: Giants' Pence opens Game 1 with first-inning homer off James Shields

Hunter Pence silenced the crowd at Kauffman Stadium quickly Tuesday evening. 

The outfielder blasted a two-run home run off right-hander James Shields in the first inning to give the San Francisco Giants an early 3-0 lead in Game 1 of the World Series.

Pence, who hadn't recorded a postseason home run since Game 4 of the 2012 National League Championship Series, entered Monday's series opener with no hits in 11 career at-bats against Shields.
