Cardinals' Jay to have left wrist scoped

Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

Jon Jay is headed for surgery to repair a persistent wrist issue and is expected to need six-to-eight weeks of recovery time.

The Cardinals' center fielder will have his ailing left wrist scoped in the coming days, reports MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch, giving him plenty of time to be fully recovered for the start of spring training.

Jay played through the wrist pain during the second half of the season, but that didn't stop him from slashing .323/.406/.392 post All-Star break. He came up big during the Cardinals' playoff run, too, hitting .483/.571/.516 through nine playoff games.

The 29-year-old, who hit a team-high .303 in 140 games, will be arbitration eligible for the second time this offseason, and is due for a raise from the $3.25 million he made in 2014.
