Report: Red Sox could make Yoenis Cespedes available this winter

Charles LeClaire / USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Red Sox are already exploring ways to address their surplus of outfielders, and "word is spreading" that the club could make Yoenis Cespedes available on the trade market this winter, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

Acquired at the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline from the Oakland Athletics, Cespedes has just one year remaining on his contract and indicated in September he's unsure if he would sign an extension with the Red Sox. Even if the Red Sox are able to trade Cespedes, the club will still need to find playing time for a host of outfielders next season, including Rusney Castillo, Shane Victorino, Allen Craig, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Mookie Betts.

Cespedes, who earned his first career All-Star berth this season, hit .260/.301/.450 (110 OPS+) with 22 home runs and 36 doubles through 152 games between the A's and Red Sox.
