Report: Rangers, Lewis appear open to new contract

Veteran right-hander Colby Lewis could be back with the Texas Rangers next season, as the club has already exchanged contract figures with the impending free agent's representatives and both parties appear open to working out a new deal, according to ESPN's Calvin Watkins.

Lewis was compelled to sign a minor-league deal with the Rangers in November after battling persistent injury trouble over the previous two seasons. The 35-year-old logged just 105 innings between 2012 and 2013, undergoing surgery on both his elbow and hip over a disastrous two-year span that derailed his carer.

Lewis, however, returned to health this past season, fashioning a 5.18 ERA (75 ERA+) over 29 starts for the Rangers, whose rotation was decimated by injuries.
