Royals' Herrera diagnosed with slight flexor strain; Ned Yost says 'he's fine'

Kansas City Royals reliever Kelvin Herrera has been diagnosed with a slight flexor strain after undergoing an MRI, manager Ned Yost revealed prior to Game 2.

Yost further elaborated saying the righty was "fine" but wouldn't be available Friday. The team plans to re-evaluate him on Saturday to determine his Game 3 status.

Although the diagnosis is somewhat positive for the Royals, Yost could be downplaying the injury for morale reasons. Remember, Los Angeles Angels lefty Tyler Skaggs was initially diagnosed with a flexor strain in August, but ultimately required season-ending Tommy John surgery.

Herrera serves an important purpose in Kansas City's bullpen, acting as a bridge to closer Greg Holland in high-leverage situations. The 24-year-old recorded a sparkling 1.41 ERA in 70 regular-season innings.
