2004 - Seattle Mariners outfielder Ichiro Suzuki sets MLB single-season record with 262 hits

Seattle Mariners outfielder Ichiro Suzuki writes his name in the record books, as the former star of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan sets the Major League Baseball record for hits in a season.

Two days after Suzuki broke George Sisler's record of 257 hits, the 30-year-old continued to add to his total by knocking a pair of singles against the Texas Rangers in the final game of the 2004 campaign. Manager Bob Melvin would lift Suzuki in the ninth inning, as he finishes the season with 262 hits.

Suzuki's accomplishment provides a bright spot for an otherwise dismal season in the Pacific Northwest, as the Mariners finished 63-99.
