Orioles include struggling starter Ubaldo Jimenez on ALDS roster

The Baltimore Orioles are carrying six starting pitchers, including off-season acquisition Ubaldo Jimenez, on their American League Division Series roster.

Jimenez pitched his way out of the rotation in August after a disappointing first season in Baltimore. The struggling right-hander finished the year on a high note, however, striking out three batters during an inning of relief against the Toronto Blue Jays on the final day of the season.

Rookie starter Kevin Gausman is expected to pitch out of the bullpen, while lefty reliever Brian Matusz (53 strikeouts in 51 2/3 innings) will not be making the trip to Detroit for Thursday's Game 1.

As expected, suspended slugger Chris Davis was left off the roster. He is eligible to return to the team during the American League Championship Series, should the Orioles make it that far.

Among the other notable inclusions/exclusions on the roster:

Baltimore manager Buck Showalter elected to carry just two left-handed relievers given the lack of options the Detroit Tigers have on the bench from that side; right-hander Ryan Webb (3.83 ERA, 1.26 WHIP in 51 relief appearances) was left off the roster; and the Orioles opted to carry an additional infielder (presumably due to Davis's absence) in Jimmy Paredas rather than outfielder Quintin Berry.
