Angels to use 3-man rotation for ALDS; Shoemaker to start Game 2

Kelvin Kuo / USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia is shortening his rotation for the American League Division Series vs. the Kansas City Royals.

Scioscia revealed plans Wednesday to roll out a three-man rotation consisting of Jered Weaver, Matt Shoemaker and C.J. Wilson. Weaver will start Game 4 on short rest if needed, and Shoemaker's participation in Game 5 will likely depend on how his rib-cage strain responds in Game 2.

The shortened rotation also means Scioscia will have nine arms available out of the bullpen, including Hector Santiago and Cory Rasmus as the long men.

Game 1 of the best-of-five series gets underway Thursday evening.
