Braves shut down Mike Minor for remainder of season

Jason Getz / USA TODAY Sports

After leaving an inning into his Saturday start with shoulder inflammation, Atlanta Braves left-hander Mike Minor has been scratched from his scheduled Thursday outing and shut down for the remainder of the season, the team announced Tuesday.

Minor had a fantastic 2013 campaign, in which he led all Braves starters in innings pitched, FIP, WHIP, and strikeout-to-walk ratio, but he regressed badly in 2014, and never looked quite right after beginning the season on the disabled list (also owing to shoulder issues).

He finishes the year with a 6-12 record and a 4.77 ERA, having seen his strikeout rate dip and his walk, home run, and line drive rates balloon. At 76-80, the Braves are staring at their first losing season since 2008.
