Alex Rios: (Thumb) Won't Return In 2014

Rios (thumb) has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2014 season, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Analysis:

Rios has been out of action since Sept. 4 due to complications involving a bruised thumb. Although he seemed to be nearing a return, there was little incentive to push him with the team far out of the playoff hunt. Instead, the Rangers will play it cautiously with their $68 million man, waiting until next spring to allow him to return to action. In the meantime, Dan Robertson and Jake Smolinski should continue to see extra reps during the final part of the season.
