Nationals reinstate Ryan Zimmerman from DL

Brad Mills / USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Nationals reinstated Ryan Zimmerman from the 15-day disabled list Saturday afternoon, activating the 29-year-old who spent nearly two months recovering from a hamstring injury.

Zimmerman missed 55 games after suffering a Grade 3 hamstring strain in July, and will return to a team that already secured a division title. A natural third baseman, Zimmerman is expected to play several positions upon his return, manager Matt Williams told the Washington Post.

“I'm sure he’ll play third,” Williams said. “I’m sure he’ll play first and left. He’ll come off the bench some probably, too. If we get an opportunity, and he’s not playing that day, we can get him at bat.”

Zimmerman is hitting .282/.345/.456 (120 OPS+) with five home runs and 19 doubles through 53 games this season.
