Mets recall Matsuzaka, place Black on DL

Jerry Lai / USA TODAY Sports

Daisuke Matsuzaka is back with the New York Mets after elbow inflammation kept him off a major league mound for over a month.

Matsuzaka last pitched July 24, when he threw two innings against the Milwaukee Brewers before landing on the disabled list.

In 28 appearances split between the bullpen and rotation this season, the 33-year-old is 3-3 with a 3.87 ERA in 74 1/3 innings.

The Mets were originally slated to wait until rosters expand on Monday to add Matsuzaka, but reliever Vic Black was placed on the disabled list with a herniated disc in his neck, opening a roster spot.
