Giants' Sanchez likely done for season due to concussion

San Francisco Giants catcher Hector Sanchez is expected to miss the remainder of the 2014 campaign amid lingering symptoms from his second concussion of the season, according to the Associated Press.

Sanchez has not played an inning for the Giants since landing on the disabled list July 26, and was prescribed three more weeks of rest after an examination by a concussion specialist Wednesday. As such, manager Bruce Bochy conceded that the 24-year-old likely won't be able to return this season.

"That's a long time. That puts us in the middle of September," Bochy said. "Obviously it makes it questionable, Hector helping us out the remainder of the season. It's a tough break for Hector. We've got to look out for his well-being. We told him there's a very slim chance he'll be back this year. He knows that. There's not much you can do about it. He needs some rest right now."

Sanchez has plagued by concussion-related symptoms since taking a foul tip off his mask Aug. 16 while on a rehabilitation assignment.

"There's nothing I can say right now. I'm not feeling right, it's bad," Sanchez said. "Being in that situation, I'll see in three weeks how I'm feeling. Hopefully I'll get better in three weeks. I'll be all right."
