The Chicago Cubs have traded second baseman/outfielder Emilio Bonifacio and reliever James Russell to the Atlanta Braves.

The versatile Bonifacio will fit nicely into the Braves infield or outfield when needed. The switch-hitting veteran is hitting .279 and has stolen 14 bases in 69 games.

Russell, a left-handed reliever, will fill the void left by the injured Jonny Venters and is a nice addition to an already strong bullpen that boasts Craig Kimbrel and Jordan Walden.

The Cubs will receive minor league catcher/infielder Victor Caratini in return as well as cash considerations. Caratini, a 2013 second-round pick, is the No. 7-ranked prospect in the Braves system according to MLB.com.
