The San Diego Padres parted ways with another veteran in advance of Thursday's trade deadline, shipping outfielder Chris Denorfia to the Seattle Mariners, the team announced.

Despite adding Kendrys Morales earlier this month, the Mariners were still eager to augment a lineup that has averaged just 3.81 runs per game this season, the fourth-worst mark in the majors.

An impending free agent, Denorfia has struggled thus far in 2014 to replicate the success he enjoyed over the last several seasons. The 34-year-old is hitting just .242/.293/.319 (78 OPS+) with only one home runs through 89 games with the Padres this year.

However, the nine-year veteran owns a career .301/.367/.443 line against left-handed pitching and managed an impressive 113 OPS+ across 484 games between 2010 and 2013.
