The Seattle Mariners find themselves in the thick of the American League Wild Card chase, and they are reportedly hard at work searching for a tonic to fix their anaemic outfield.

The Mariners have reportedly been in contact with the Minnesota Twins in regards to the services of Josh Willingham, according to Jon Morosi of Fox Sports

The New York Yankees are also considering Willingham, writes CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.

The 35-year-old outfielder has struggled to stay on the field this season but has produced when in the lineup. He's stroked a .219/.361/421 line in 57 games, a line of production slightly below his career averages.

The M's could use the help. As a team their outfield corps were hitting .252/.291/.356 heading into Tuesday's games, with just 15 home runs in 105 games.

The Yankees, as Heyman so perfectly puts it, "have been disappointed by their offense." Amen.
