The St. Louis Cardinals are looking to upgrade the catcher position after Yadier Molina fell to injury.

The Boston Red Sox released A.J. Pierzynski on July 16, setting him free to sign with a team of his choice. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal is reporting Pierzynski has left Cooperstown and the signing is imminent. Pierzynski was in New York for the hall of fame inductions scheduled for Sunday.

The 16-year veteran hit .254 with four homers and 31 RBIs in 72 games for the Red Sox. The 37-year-old also has 100 postseason at-bats to his credit, slashing a stellar .300/.372/.520 in October.
