The Detroit Tigers consulted second baseman Ian Kinsler and closer Joe Nathan - two of Joakim Soria's former teammates - before acquiring the Rangers righty.
One of the biggest questions resulting from Thursday's deal was how Nathan would co-exist with Soria in high-leverage situations. General manager Dave Dombrowski confirmed Nathan will remain the closer with Soria acting as setup man Friday and Nathan had nothing but good things to say about the team dealing for Soria.
"We were both [Kinsler and Nathan] all for it," Nathan told MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM. "You look at the depth in the bullpen, adding Soria it will just shorten the game for us and give us options from the sixth inning on."
The Tigers sent pitching prospects Corey Knebel and Jake Thompson the other way in the deal.
