Giants' Lincecum records first career save in 14-inning marathon

Tim Lincecum was the last man standing in San Francisco's depleted bullpen during the 14th inning of Tuesday's marathon with the Philadelphia Phillies, affording the popular right-hander a decidedly rare opportunity.

Lincecum, who had made just one prior regular-season relief appearance through eight seasons in the majors, collected his first career save after recording the final two outs of the game to secure a 9-6 win for the Giants at Citizens Bank Park.

"I was trying to do my best to control my emotions," Lincecum told MLB.com's Chris Haft after the game, a second consecutive victory for the Giants.

Entrusted to preserve a four-run lead, Lincecum entered the game in the 14th inning with one out and runners on second and third. The 30-year-old labored through a long at-bat with Cody Asche, but finally induced a weak groundout to second base that plated a run. Lincecum then walked Cameron Rupp to bring the tying run to the plate, but subsequently got Domonic Brown to ground out meekly to first base and end the game.
