2013 - Ryan Braun suspended for remainder of season

Major League Baseball suspends Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun for the rest of the season and playoffs for his role in the Biogenesis scandal.

Braun, who is one of several players implicated in the Miami clinic's performance-enhancing drug ring, decides not to appeal his suspension.

"As I have acknowledged in the past, I am not perfect," Braun says in a statement.

His punishment includes the Brewers' final 65 games and any potential postseason games. It will count as his first violation of baseball's drug program, despite not failing a banned substance test. Braun loses $3.25 million as a result of the suspension.

Braun is the first player in baseball history to successfully challenge a drug-related penalty when his 50-game suspension for a positive testosterone test is overturned by an arbitrator in 2012.

1999 - Orel Hershiser gets win No. 200

New York Mets right-hander Orel Hershiser wins his 200th game after tossing seven innings of two-run ball at Olympic Stadium in Montreal.

Hershiser improves to 10-7 on the season as the Mets move to within two games of the first-place Atlanta Braves. He helps his own cause by chipping in a pair of hits and a run scored in New York's 7-4 win over the Expos.

The 40-year-old finishes his only season with the Mets at 13-12 before ending his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Hershisher compiles a 204-150 record with a 3.48 ERA and 2,014 strikeouts over 18 years in the league.
