Report: Tigers, Pirates, Indians showing interest in Padres' Benoit

Just days after trading closer Huston Street to the Los Angeles Angels, the San Diego Padres could part ways with another veteran reliever, as Joaquin Benoit is reportedly drawing interest from the Detroit Tigers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Cleveland Indians, according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.

However, the situation remains very much "up in the air," as Benoit still has another season remaining on his two-year, $15.5-million deal - the 36-year-old also has an $8-million club option for 2016 - and his absence would constitute a big blow to San Diego's bullpen.

Both the Tigers and Pirates boast legitimate chances at qualifying for the postseason, but neither club features a particularly strong bullpen. Detroit's relief corps owns a 4.40 ERA, the third-worst mark in the American League, while Pittsburgh's bullpen has managed 45 meltdowns this season and newly-acquired right-hander Ernesto Frieri has struggled in eight appearances thus far.

Benoit, a 13-year veteran, owns a 1.99 ERA with a 0.83 WHIP through 40 appearances this season, notching 47 strikeouts while allowing just 23 hits over 40 2/3 innings.
