3 potential landing spots for David Price
Surrounded all season by rumors that he is on the trading block, Tampa Bay Rays pitcher David Price has done his best to increase the price tag for his services.
Sporting a ridiculous 164 strikeouts to only 21 walks, the All-Star lefty is a piece every team in the major leagues would welcome with open arms to the top of their rotation.
Price has been rumored to be pursued by basically any team you can name, but there are a handful of teams with a slight leg up on the rest.
As always, anything remains possible, but here are three potentially juicy destinations for the Rays' ace.
Cleveland Indians
Don't look now, but Cleveland is quickly becoming the sports destination city in America. Yes, seriously.
Johnny Manziel has arrived for the Browns, and LeBron James is on his way back home to Ohio, leaving the door open for the Tribe to make a splash of their own and win back some inches on the sports page of the local papers.
There is a little fire behind the smoke, as well. According to the Plain-Dealer, the Indians talked to the Rays in the winter, reportedly discussing Carlos Santana, Danny Salazar, and a top prospect in exchange for the 28-year-old.
It would be a steep price to pay, especially if Price leaves after the 2015 season, but if the Indians can talk Price into spending his down time with Johnny Football and King James in Cleveland, a match could be made.
Los Angeles Angels
It may be a tough match for the two teams, but Price would definitely be a step in the direction the Angels need to take. Blessed with the highest-scoring offense in the league, the issues for the Angels stem from run prevention.
Stuck in a division with the stingy Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners, Price would go a long way to providing another stellar arm to place alongside veteran Jered Weaver and the blossoming Garrett Richards.
After opening the wallet to sign Josh Hamilton and Albert Pujols a few short seasons ago, there is little question that the Halos wouldn't hesitate to ante up and give Price a luxurious contract if he comes aboard.
Seattle Mariners
Before going any further, take a second to imagine a rotation that has Felix Hernandez and Price at the top of it.
It almost seems unfair, doesn't it?
Yes, the biggest need for the M's right now is a power hitter, but with Robinson Cano and Hernandez in their respective primes, the Mariners main focus is to win now.
The Mariners have the prospects and pieces to put a proper package together for Price. Pitcher Taijuan Walker, infielders Nick Franklin and D.J. Peterson are all intriguing pieces, and seem custom fit for the Rays' cost-effective style of squeezing every ounce of production they can for their money.
Despite making it clear that he would not re-sign with the Mariners after 2015 season, he may change his tune if the team pulls off a pair of playoff runs with Price and Hernandez leading the way.
