Padres fire GM Josh Byrnes, reportedly eyeing Kevin Towers

Fed up with a lack of positive production, the San Diego Padres relieved general manager Josh Byrnes of his duties on Sunday, and the club is reportedly considering bring an old face back into the fold.
Kevin Towers, who served as Padres GM from 1996-2009, is reportedly in the mix to replace Byrnes, according to Bob Nightengale.
Towers is currently the Arizona Diamondbacks general manager, meaning the the second worst team in the National League is considering adding the GM of the worst one.
The Padres made four playoff appearances and one World Series berth in Towers' previous tenure with the team.
Former New York Mets GM Omar Minaya and Padres assistant general mangers A.J. Hinch and Fred Uhlman Jr. are reportedly also being considered.
