Athletics acquire lefty Brad Mills for $1

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

Forget Nelson Cruz, Brad Mills might be this year's best bargain. After all, he only cost Oakland a buck.

The Milwaukee Brewers traded the 29-year-old lefty to the Athletics on Tuesday in exchange for a single George Washington, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

While the dollar figure may be of little consequence to either team, the fact Oakland plans to use him in its starting rotation certainly makes the transaction noteworthy.

Mills has spent all of the 2014 season at Triple-A Nashville, where the southpaw racked up 77 strikeouts in 75 innings, mostly as a starter.

A Toronto Blue Jays' fourth-round pick in 2007, Mills last appeared in a major league game in 2012 as a member of the Los Angeles Angels. He pitched for the Texas Rangers Triple-A affiliate last season.
