Report: Mets to meet with agents for Axford, Gregg

Just hours after reportedly signing veteran right-hander Bartolo Colon to a two-year deal, the Mets are scheduled to meet with the representatives for a pair of late-inning relievers, according to MLB Network's Jim Duquette.

The Mets' bullpen is in a state of disarray, as the club lost veteran reliever LaTroy Hawkins to free agency, while late-inning fixture Bobby Parnell is currently recovering from neck surgery.  The team also opted to non-tender 37-year-old righty Scott Atchison last week.

Axford compiled a 4.02 ERA with a career-high 1.52 WHIP over 75 appearances between the Brewers and Cardinals last year, averaging a career-low nine strikeouts per nine innings.

Gregg, meanwhile, served as the Cubs' closer for the majority of 2013, notching 33 saves with a 3.48 ERA while averaging 8.1 strikeouts and 4.6 walks per nine innings.
