Angels' Stephenson to miss season with elbow injury
Los Angeles Angels right-hander Robert Stephenson will miss the remainder of the 2024 season due to an elbow injury, the team announced Wednesday, according to Erica Weston of Bally Sports West.
The Angels will have more information about Stephenson's status Thursday, according to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register.
The 31-year-old entered spring training with shoulder soreness, and the Angels placed him on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation on March 28.
The eight-year veteran was removed from a Triple-A rehab assignment on Sunday after walking a batter on four pitches.
Stephenson didn't appear in a preseason or regular-season game after signing a three-year, $33-million contract in January. The deal included a $2.5-million team option in 2027 that would automatically trigger if he spent 130 consecutive days on the IL with an elbow ligament injury between the 2024-26 seasons.
Stephenson was terrific last season for the Tampa Bay Rays, authoring a 2.35 ERA and 14.1 K/9 in 42 appearances after they acquired him in a trade from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
