Blue Jays activate Romano, Swanson from IL

The Toronto Blue Jays activated relievers Jordan Romano and Erik Swanson from the 15-day injured list on Tuesday, the team announced.

Romano and Swanson have yet to pitch for the Blue Jays this season after beginning the campaign with injuries. Romano was on the IL with right elbow inflammation, while Swanson had right forearm inflammation.

The pair should provide a boost to a Blue Jays bullpen that's posted a 5.00 ERA and minus-0.5 fWAR without them thus far.

Romano posted an ERA under 3.00 for the fourth consecutive season last year while saving 36 games and striking out 11 hitters per nine innings. The two-time All-Star has amassed 97 career saves with the Blue Jays.

Meanwhile, Swanson was an effective setup man for the Blue Jays last season, his first with Toronto following a trade with the Seattle Mariners. The 30-year-old right-hander authored a 2.97 ERA and 10.1 K/9 during 69 appearances.

The Blue Jays optioned right-hander Nate Pearson to Triple-A and designated right-hander Mitch White for assignment to make room for Romano and Swanson on the active roster.
