Nats pull Scherzer after losing no-no, cough up late Game 3 lead

After pushing Max Scherzer's 2017 postseason debut to Game 3 of the National League Division Series, the Washington Nationals ace retired 19 Chicago Cubs hitters without giving up a hit.

After surrendering his first hit of the game - a double from Ben Zobrist - Nationals manager Dusty Baker made the difficult decision to yank Scherzer and call on left-handed reliever Sammy Solis to face Kyle Schwarber. The 33-year-old starter - known for his fiery competitiveness - paced in the dugout following the move.

Cubs skipper Joe Maddon countered by pinch-hitting the left-handed Schwarber with Albert Almora Jr., who delivered an RBI single after a seven-pitch at-bat.

Brandon Kintzler was eventually summoned and retired Addison Russell on a line out to center field that resulted in Jason Heyward getting doubled up at first base.
