Padres' Ryan Schimpf: Key blast in Wednesday's victory

Schimpf went 1-for-2 with a go-ahead three-run home run in the ninth inning in Wednesday's 8-5 win over the Diamondbacks.

Analysis:

The power-hitting infielder launched a 439-foot shot shot off Fernando Rodney with two aboard in the ninth, giving San Diego a 6-5 lead. It was the 29-year-old's first long ball since April 16 and helped him snap a nightmarish 1-for-26 slump that had encompassed his previous seven games. Schimpf may be due for some good fortune after posting an unsustainable .094 BABIP in his first 78 plate appearances, and his walk rate is encouragingly up to 19.7 percent thus far this season.
