Watch: Review negates Schwarber's wild, bobbling grab

Caylor Arnold / USA TODAY Sports

There are many fair criticisms one could make about replay in baseball, but the system's greatest failing no doubt occurred Thursday afternoon, when hard video evidence negated the greatest catch of Kyle Schwarber's career.

In the top of the third inning at Wrigley Field, Schwarber, built like a linebacker and running on a reconstructed knee, seemingly made an absurd catch on a deep drive from Los Angeles Dodgers utility man Kike Hernandez, improbably corralling the ball just in front of the wall after ranging well to his left and navigating an insane series of bobbles.

The crowd exploded. Schwarber was jazzed. But the euphoria came to an abrupt halt after Dodgers manager Dave Roberts challenged the call, prompting a three minute, 55-second review that resulted in the play being overturned.

Ugh. Will anything ever go right for the Chicago Cubs?
