Blue Jays' Chris Coghlan: Signs minor league contract with Blue Jays

Coghlan signed a minor-league contract with the Blue Jays on Saturday, Toronto play-by-play announcer Mike Wilner reports.

Analysis:

After being released by the Phillies earlier in the week, Coghlan will latch on with the Blue Jays and start the season with their Triple-A affiliate at Buffalo. Coghlan, 31, struggled at the plate last season (.188/.290/.318), but he adds defensive versatility that makes him a plug-and-play option in the infield or the outfield for manager John Gibbons if he ultimately gets called back up to the majors.
