Reds' Cody Reed: Disastrous outing Monday
Reed was clobbered for 10 earned runs on 10 hits and four walks over 3.2 innings Monday against the Giants. He also hit a batter and did not record a strikeout.
Analysis:
This performance from Reed was a far cry from what we've seen from him throughout most of the spring. He had allowed a total of six earned runs in his first five Cactus League appearances with a 20:5 K:BB over 16.2 innings. Monday's blowup will not help his chances, but the Reds have not given any indication that the poor showing has taken Reed out of the running for a rotation spot. Robert Stephenson, Bronson Arroyo and Amir Garrett remain in the mix as well for the final two openings.
