Royals' Ian Kennedy: Up to 17.1 scoreless innings in spring training

Kennedy has yet to give up an earned run over 17.1 innings spanning four outings in Cactus League play. He's struck out 19 batters while surrendering nine hits and three walks.

Analysis:

Manager Ned Yost has already tabbed Danny Duffy for the Opening Day starting nod, but Kennedy seems to have solidified himself as the club's clear No. 2 starter to begin the season thanks to his nearly flawless spring. According to Rustin Dodd of The Kansas City Star, Kennedy has credited his improved curveball for his early success, though it doesn't sound as though he's made any major mechanical overhauls. As a result, it shouldn't be expected that Kennedy will make any major leaps as he enters his age-32 season, though he'll make for a serviceable late-round target in drafts thanks to the ample strikeouts and generally sound health he provides.
