Cubs' Wade Davis: Has manager's confidence despite struggles

Cubs manager Joe Maddon said he's not worried about Davis despite his 19.64 spring training ERA, Patrick Mooney of CSN Chicago reports.

Analysis:

Maddon managed Davis in Tampa Bay previously, and he said he's not worried about the righty's slow start. "You're not going to believe this, but he's actually throwing better than he normally does in spring training," Maddon said. "The biggest problem he's having right now is command. Velocity looks good. The break on the breaking ball looks good. He's just not throwing the ball where he wants it." The bloated ERA is in just 3.2 innings, so the small-sample-size caveat applies here. But Davis did miss time last season with a flexor strain in his pitching elbow, so if the struggles continue for too long, they will raise some red flags.
